There's just one little hitch: the weather needs to cooperate. Terrace Tourism is sponsoring its first- ever snowman building contest. this month, says marketing coordinator Krystal Piper. ‘She remains stubbornly optimistic but admits the contest deadlines may be ex- tended if the oh-so-necessary white stuff doesn’t fall for a while. Ss. “[’'m hoping we still get snow,” Piper “said last week. ' Here’s how the contest will work: People can’ enter four. categories. ‘There’s’’ best effort (Sort of a catch-all category for . entries that don’t fit other criteria); most creative; -best dressed and most grand- iose, and note, when it comes to snaw- men, size matters. “The bigger the better. “I'm really hoping people go all out,” Piper says. “I can’t wait to see what people come up with.” You can enter more than once. Prizes will be awarded in all four categories. She advises people to us their imagina- tion, because the possibilities are practic- ally limitless. The tourism society plans to display photographs of the contestant’s snow sculptures in the Skeena Mall so people can take a look at them while the contest is in full swing. She envisions having a list of entrants so people can tour around and took at the snow sculptures vying lo win the contest. “Just like people go around and lock at the lights at Christmas,” she says, adding she’s hopeful families and local busines- ses will really get behind the contest. “I would like to see businesses doing this as a way to build camaraderie with their employees,” she says. “I’m really hoping people jump on it.” ; “""It'could be the start of something big. "I'd really like to see this become a yearly thing,” Piper says. Submit entries by taking a photograph of your snow creation and sending it in to Terrace Tourism, Jocated inside the Visit- or Information Centre on Keith Ave. Be sure to include a contact name, number and address. Entry photos and in- formation can be submitted by email to tts@telus.net. There’s no limit on the number of entries but be sure each is a different snow sculpture.
