ee News In Brief You gotta be careful now that it’s dark outside AS THE DAYS get shorter, people in Ter- race are spending more and more time in the dark, | That means that pe- desirians are becoming more difficult to spot for drivers. “Pedestrians should be aware that they have to make an effort to be seen so they are more conspicuous for drivers,” advised Cst. Brendan McKenna of © the Terrace RCMP. Pedestrians and cyc- lists should make sure to wear bright, reflective clothing when walking or riding in the dark, “People should be aware that it gets dark early now and the days are getting shorter until winter solstice,” McKenna said. And McKenna has observed another disturbing pedestrian trend. “One of the things that I’ve noticed is that a lot of people in town don’t use the sidewalks where they're available,” McKenna said. Not using a sidewalk increases the chances of an accident happening. If a sidewalk is not present, McKenna said pe- destrians should walk facing traffic to increase their safety and visibility, Store clerk robbed by man with knife A MAC’S convenience store clerk came face to face with a knife-wielding masked man Nov, 29. But he said the idea that communities could buy in without a referen- dum has come up. “We've always under- stood there might be an option like that,” he said. Talstra said it could be done legally if there were “special dispensation” from the province. “Even though they could make that option available, we’7e not going to do that,” Talstra said. Hull said if community investment is to be part of the SCI sale, local voters will have to be accommo- dated. “IF it takes until January or February, that’s how long it takes,” Hull said. “We're noi going to be bullied by somebody else’s timeline.” The maximum amount the city is allowed to bor- tow is $27 million, says city treasurer Judy Deger- ness.
