Looking good B4 - The Terrace Standard, Wednesday, November 22, 2000 City of Terrace to enter a blooming tough contest Official says we are ready to take on the competition IS TERRACE ready to face the competition in a garden contest that’s na- tion-wide? The city’s superinten- dent of parks and recrea- tion sure thinks so. The city has joined for- ces with the Terrace Beautification Society far “In the first year you're involved, they give you a lot of helpful sugges- tions. the Communities in Bloom contest. “IT think we would do quite well,” Steve Scott said. The contest doesn’t pit small communities against large ones, he cautions, Rather, each community {hat enters is put into a ca- tegory based on population size. “That way, the city of Terrace isn’t competing against the city of Hali- fax,” he said. The contest is open to communities across Cana- da. “It’s really to enhance and promote civic beauti- fication,” he said. When a municipality enters the contest, provin- cial adjudicators come and take a look to see how the town rates. “In the first year you’re involved, they give you a lot of helpful suggestions,” he said, adding the adjudi- cators take a critical look at the towns. They rate the town in eight different areas: tidi- ness, urban forestry, land- scaped areas, floral arran- fements, turf areas, envir- onmental effort, heritage conservation — and com- munity involvement. “The beautification soc- iety is an excellent exam- ple of that.” There is still plenty of _ would like to do,” he said. oy See Steve Scott time to get involved, ei- ther at the planning stage, or by donating money or materials to a particular project. One idea that's been discussed is adding hang- ing baskets to the lanterns along the Grand Trunk Pathway. But pinning down these sarts of details will be the job of future planning meetings. “We've pot to get toge- ther and plan out what we {Litre 4 Litres-°2 1% Sale Ends December 2nd ss pepteeaen SUPERIOR PERFORMANCE For YOUR SNOWMOBILE Sonic XL-S Synthetic Oil Performance Features SONIC XL-S offers: a vom Low Smoke; : « , Emissions Hedustion - Anti-scuff Performances: Ring Stick Protection Improved Engine Cleanliness Corrosion Protection Increased Engine Life Superior Low Temperature Performance Compatibte with Fuels Containing Alcohol yey on ao Terrace Co-op Home Centre 2912 Molitor St., Terrace 635-9595 Toll Free 1-800-848-6347 MacKay’s Funeral Service Ltd.
