H. N. MADSEN With all due respect to news- paper editors, I have often thought that in many instances the most provocative part of the newspaper Js its comic strip: I recently saw one of these comic atripe picturing a lttle boy playing with his tinker toys. First he took the parts out of ¢he box, He spread them out on the floor about him in every direction, Then he start- td to build sdmething with them. But not realizing what was happening, he made the mistake of enclosing himself in it. In the final scene he Is shown completely encircled and imprisoned by the thing he is trying to build. When at last he realizes his dilema he cries for help. This Is a parable of life, As we look at our specific sins and short-comings singularily, they do not appear to be very ser. Sermon fous or harmful. Then we begin to te engrossed and become’ captivated by them, and yield to them. We keep on giving in to them. Suddenly we find our- selves imprisoned by our own mistakes and weaknesses, We try in our own way, through our own ingenulties to work our way out, But all we succeed in doing ig building the walls of our own prison higher, un- til we become completely iso- lated from the totality of life in our home-made prison. How- ever, there is One to whom we can cry out. There js One to whom we can turn. God. stands by ready to help. This is the "Why" of Christiias. This is why the angels sang ‘Peace orvearth, goodwill to men.’ This is why the shepherds proclaimed what they had seen and ‘heard. Reference is made to those who illegally entered the premises of Branch No, 13, by O'KEEFE - APPOINTMENT door (a new door, by the way), destroying the lock on the inner door and destructively opening the door to the store room and stealing a quantity of goods from the premises. Normally, we are peaceful cit- izeng and don’t feel bad about someone else ‘being able to en- joy the good things in life, but for once, we are incensed and sincerely haope that the thieves get caught and get their just dues from the Court. Have you ever made a New Year's Resolution? If so, have you kept it? This is a special plea to all the Veterans in the Terrace area, If you are not a Legionaire, make a resolution to join the Legion in 1967 and help make your Térrace Branch a truly Centennial Project, — You will enjoy it. Once again, we remind all members of the installation of the new officers of the branch, taking place in the Legion on Friday, January 6th at 8:00 p.m. — This is “the” occasion of the year and we ask as many as possible to attend. Why not start this New Year by putting some of your trust in God, As the year progresses you will find that more and more you will call upon Him. And the more you call the more you will realize that Hig resources are unlimited. And you will find that home-made prison wall become smaller and smaller while the worth-while- ness of life becomes greater and greater. But at some moment I did answer Yes fo someone or something and from that hour I was cer- tain that existence ig meaning- ful and that, therefore, my life, in self-surrender had a goal, From that moment I have known ‘what it means ‘not to Took back,’ and ‘te take no thought for the morrow.’ ” New Years Eve was more than a special oceasion for Mr. and Mrs. Henry Scheper of 5026 MR.
