The City agrees to accept Dykes, Pumphouses, Flood Boxes, and Lands located within the City. 3. The City is prepared to enter into an Agreement with British Columbia and the District of Coquitlam to operate and maintain improved works. | 4, The City agrees in principle with the expenditure of an estimated $336,000. for the Cedar pumphouse and Laurier, Dominion, and Harbour pump sumps. In this regard, it is also recommended that the Finance Committee be requested to determine the best means for the City to handle this proposed expenditure. 5. The City agrees to acquire the necessary Rights~of-Way within the City that are required for the improved works. ; be approved. Carried. In speaking to the resolution, Alderman Mabbett noted that the subject had been discussed by Council on several previous occasions and the time was such that the Province is ready to go to tender on the work, so an early decision on the matter ts required. Alderman Laking expressedhis objection to the expenditure of $336,000. plus the cost of land acquisition which was a considerable change to the original proposals for the programme, due to Federal Government cutbacks. Alderman Thompson suggested that in the future the Province may well provide more assistance relative to costs for internal drainage and further that participation in the Programme at this stage will prove to be less costly in the long run due to escalating costs. Thompson ;motice of ;motion re ; Dyking Tax Thompson wished to present a Notice of Motion for the next meeting of the Council with respect to the removal of the Dyking Tax from certain areas of the City. Alderman Traboulay referred to the point in the Committee's report which indicated that Mr. Bonham (Dept. of Environment) and Mr. Bland (Crippen Engineering) would be prepared to discuss the project with interested members of the public at any time and suggested that some of the local ratepayers' groups may be interested in pursuing this subject.
