There are three key things to re- member: Flame-resistant fabrics for . costumes, Flame-resistant decorations for parties, and NO candles, - Hallowe’en can be a fun celebration, but children should be closely supervised and their costumes made with fire safety in mind. The Heart and Stroke Founda- tion celebrates the 10th anniver- sary of the Dance for Heart on Nov. 11 at 3 pm. in the Skeena Jr. Secondary School gym. The aerobic event promotes car- diovascular health and fitness while raising money to aid in re- search and education on Canada’s number one killer — heart dis- case and stroke. You can get involved by pick- ing up a pledge form at the Ter- race Arena of Aquatic Centre or at any fitness class. - To mark the 10th anniversary, pledge collectors will receive ex- citing gifts from a portable water bottle to an incredible warm up suit. There will also be prizes, music, refreshments. Show your big heart. No costume should have billowing or long-trailing features that present a higher risk of ignition. « When planning party decora- lions bear in mind that dried -flowers. and cornstalks are highly - flammable. Keep crepe paper and other decorations well away from heat sources. Do - not decorate with candles. Pumpkins can be safely illuminated with small, inexpensive flashlights. _When decorating, remember to keep exits clear, Be sure children are supervised at all times. * Do not decorate your walkway or yard with candles or torch lights. With a little. creativity,’ flashlights can be just as effective in creating a festive atmosphere, * Instruct children to stay away from open flames or other heat sources. Be sure each child knows the Stop, Drop and Roll technique in the event their clo- thing catches fire.
