Organization of American States, on the present tr

situation in the Dominican Republic, the International
Confederation of Free Trade Unions “recalled that it had_
firmly condemned the military coup of ber 1963
which abruptly interrupted constitutional life,” a refer-
ence to the overthrow at that time of the democratically
elected government of Juan Bosch by a military junta.

Welcoming the measures already taken or decided
upon by the Organization of American States, Omer
Becu, ICFTU General Secretary, expressed the = that
“it would succeed in making the cease fire fully effective
and ensure an immediate return to constitutional life as
well as firm guarantees for all political, civic and trade
union rights” in the Republic.
