DATE: September 21, 1994 City Administrator Joan Deeks Director of Human Resources Emergency Preparedness - Application for Federal Joint Emergency Preparedness Program (SEPP) Cost Share. RECOMMENDATION: That Council authorize staff to apply for a Federal Joint Emergency Preparedness Program (JEPP) cost share. If the cost share is approved it would result in a cost saving of up to 50% toward the purchase of emergency equipment. We are requesting that Council approve application which, if approved, Council would provide funding for: 5 kw generator Cornmercial Base Station Radio Three Portable Packet Stations TOTAL COST Savings to the City - (up to 50% of cost) BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: The City has the opportunity to apply for cost sharing under the Federal goverment which may provide assistance to emergency preparedness projects. The criteria for cost sharing approval are priorized in categories such as formulation of emergency plans, training and education, telecommunications, etc. Excluded projects include those presently underway or equipment that is the normal responsibility of government that would be obtained through the budgeting process. Emergency Preparedness 1995 Budget items that the City may be eligible for Federal Cost Sharing would be: . (COST: $6,000). This equipment would be used during an electrical power failure to provide electricity for the City’s Emergency Operations Centre (EOC). Without this piece of equipment, the EOC would have no base station radio communications capabilities or lighting to function in.
