SUBJECT: Naming of Parks in Citadel Heights

We presently have one fully developed park and phase one of another
park in Citadel Heights. Presently these parks are known as site one
and site two. Last year the Parks & Recreation Committee came up
with some names for Council's consideration; but they were turned
down. It is important that these parks be named and I would suggest
that a contest be run. The approach would be to place advertisements
in the local newspapers for two weeks advertising the name contest
and that a prize be given for the winning name. Possible prizes
could be; one year's free pass to public swimming at Hyde Creek Pool
a $50 coupon towards recreation programs, a six month pass to a
fitness class etc.

Recommendations:

a) That we advertise the contest for two weeks in the
local newspaper.

b) That the contest be open to any city resident.

c) That the Mayor appoint a committee to choose the
“winning name”.

d) That one prize be given for the winner.

I would like to discuss this item at the October 17th, Parks and
Recreation Committee Meeting.
