COUNCIL MAY ~ 6 1974 REPORT Members of Council DATE: May 3, 1974 FROM: Mayor Campbell RE: Trip to Victoria The meetings in Victoria were attended by Alderman M.A. Thompson, Alderman J.J. Keryluk, V.G. Borch, P.Eng., City Engineer and myself. 1. We visited Mr. Venables of the Pollution Control Branch and had discussions regarding disposal of garbage. We have been assured that if the need arises we will be able to dump our garbage until the end of the year. Mr. Venables has asked us to approach the Greater Vancouver Regional District to make solid waste disposal their function and this will be done next week. 2. We visited the Highways Branch regardirg roads. There seems to be agreement en the Mary Hill By-pass but this is some time in the distant future. RE: Lougheed Highway We had an excellent meeting with the Highway's staff and found out the following: (a) The four-laning from Pitt River to Pine Tree will start this year and be completed by Fall of 1975. This will include the crossing of the Coquitlam River. €b) The Pitt River bridge will not be built before three to four years, There appears to be no great need at the present. {c) Jervis will not be closed but will have a right turn in and a right turn out. We have agreed for full lighting on the median strip through the City. 3. We had an excellent meeting with the Water Resources Board regarding Dyking. The dykes on the Pitt River will be built starting in September 1975. We have some local things to do and will commence them this Fall. There will be a public meeting on this subject in the Fall. Preliminary studies on the dyking of the Coquitlam River will start in 1976. I believe this to have been an excellent trip to Victoria and I am very satisfied with the attitudes of the Departments.
