if : wigan THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY CF PORT COQUITLAM MEMORANDUM TO | April 10, FROM: FoE. Peters., P. Enge, City Engineer SUBJECT: Capital Road Projects for 1985 Works and Services Committee, April 9th, 1985 RECOMMENDATION: That the unallocated funds for road construction of $400,000 included in the 1985 Budget be used for the following three projects: 1. Reconstruction of Prairie Avenue from Flint to Wellington Street ~ $360,000 2. Asphalt overlay of Kingsway Avenue from Wilson to Tyner - $22,000 be Overlay of Kingsway Avenue from Coast Meridian Road to the Mary Hil! Bypass ~ $50,000 And that the additional $32,000 required be taken from the future capital reserve. . BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: The attached report from the Assistant City Engineer to the Works and Services Committee explains the process which we have followed in order to arrive at a st of capital road projects for 1985. Council will note that we are not commend ing the completion of the entire length of Prairie Avenue because the section between Wéllington Street and Sefton Street is in relatively good shape and ranks— No. 14 among the roads wnich were considered by the Road Condition Study. The cost estimate above allows a contingency of $60,000 which, if not required for the listed projects, could be allocated later in the year for construction of the section of Prairie Avenue between Sefton Street and Coast Meridian Street. a The sum of $400,000 in the Budget was not based on any specific road program and therefore was simply a ballpark. figure of the approximate amount which we felt would be needed to do a significant project in 1985. Our actual! estimate of needs now is $432,000 and since the entire $400,000 is coming out of reserves, it was felt that the additional $32,000 could also be allocated from the future capital reserves so as not to affect the budget. | STW penn State FEP/sgg | Attachment | F.E.
