September 21, 1983 Aiderman Doug Vater City of Port Coquitlam 2272 McAllister Avenue Port Coquitlam, British Columbia V3C 2A8 Dear Alderman Vater: Over the past six months, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities has been making concerted efforts to enlarge its membership. We have achieved marked success, Qver six months, municipalities with a total population of nearly one million have joined the FCM. Many other municipalities intend to join in the near future. As one part of our effort to increase Knowledge of our work throughout the Canadian municipal world, we have been forwarding free of charge to your municipality copies of our magazine, FCM FORUM. From the many letters we have received, we know that the reaction to FCM FORUM has been positive. I am happy once more to send our Annual Conference Issue to you and to each member of Council. Our 1983 Conference was by all accounts a great success. We were particularly pleased with the strong participation of provincial and federal political leaders. The Conference theme, "Jobs in Communities: Local Action Toward National Recovery", was timely. We focussed on the municipal potential to encourage economic development.
