May 6, 1982 — MAY 10 1982 In view of the fact that Council has voted to bani thevuse of herbicides and insecticides on public lands such as parks, playgrounds, and school grounds in Port Coquitlam until the end of 1982 at least, I want to recommend that $3500 be set aside in the City's 1982 budget to allow a study on alternative methods. of pest control:-for. Port Coguitlam's public lands, parks, and school grounds by a firm such as Integrated Pest Management, two of whose principals are, I believe, Paul Mumby ‘and Mike Banfield, both graduates of Simon Fraser University's Pest Management program. This money could be set aside as a contingency plan, if the pest problem becomes severe in our parks and school grounds. Council would then be able to have an alternative to full use of chemicals to consider. I would like Mr. Paul Mumby and/or Mr. Mike Banfield, plus a concerned parent, and a representative from SPEC to be allowed to speak to address Council on this matter. Respectfully submitted, Ald. Kathleen Muldoon
