THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM C Q ; 4, . ] MEMORANDUM NOY 19 1979 TO: Mayor and Aldermen November 8th, 1979 FROM: F.E. Peters, P. Eng., City Engineer Re: Construction of Watermain on Shaughnessy Street ; I had earlier reported to Council and fully expected that we would by now be involved in the construction of the Shaughnessy Street watermain replacement. It has taken longer that I thought it would to complete the design and order the materials. As I pointed out in my earlier report, there will be considerable disruption to traffic on Shaughnessy Street during the ‘construction which could last from three to four weeks. Iam afraid that construction now would cut into the Christmas shopping season and possibly do some harm to the merchants in the downtown. I have therefore instructed the Superintendent of Works to delay construction until after the new year. This will cost us a little more because of anticipated worse weather conditions and of course the higher 1980 wage rates. On the other hand, I am sure that it will be very much- appreciated by the merchants. Funds for the work will have to be carried over from this year into the 1980 Budget. I trust that this arrangement will be satisfactory to you. . F.E! Peters, P. Eng., FEP/vw . City Engineer. c.c. J. Maitland, City Treasurer.
