MEMORANDUM JUN { i 4975 TO: Mayor and Council Jurie 4th, 1979 FROM: Alderman E.W. Mabbett In reference to the serious problem that has existed for the past two years at the corner of the Lougheed Highway and Shaughnessy Street, where the Highways Design Branch missed the right turn lane entering Port Coquitlam from the west going east on the Lougheed Highway. Although everyone agrees that this lane is a must and presumably the Highways Department are slowly doing something about, this is not good enough. At Highways request we have done our part in trying to purchase the Texaco property and now are in expropriation proceedings. This access is an important part of the highway system serving Port Coquitlam, not only for the residents of the southside, but the industrial area employees, and the very important need to help keep our downtown area viable. We have seen considerable growth in the downtown area recently, and it is our responsibility to see that the Provincial government gets on with the construction of the right turn lane. I recommend that the Mayor arrange a meeting immediately with the Minister responsible, requesting immediate action on this important access link into Port Coquitlam. Respectfully submitted, E.W. Mabbett, Alderman
