‘From-the Pire Chief, being: the December, 1973 report of the’ Fire Depart- a
ments: Alderman Mabbett referred to the reported malfunctions: of the fire

alarm syste em ins a: public building, and. inquired whether this “involved the. one

at Hawthorne Lodge;~ The Fire Chief advised that it. did, and that the last

Ancident was caused by a malfunction cf the compressor controls which in turn

REPORTS ;

From the City Administrator, January 18th, 1974, referring to correspon~_

dence received from the District of Burnaby requesting the City to support: a

request to the Regional District to have a by-law passed requiring member

: municipalities to levy Regional District tax rate on hospital. assessments, and

Stating his understanding that if such a by-law was paced by the GAY, R.D. the
by-law. would hot make it mandatory to levy the tax rate on hospital . -assessments
but would nerely give each municipality authority te levy y using either: the ©
total ‘assessment for hospital. purposes: or the total assessine nt for general.
purposes, - The City Administrator, in his report advised that the total:

for general purposes; therefore, using the hospital aésessment as a. tax base
‘would result: in a diightly lower mill rate to. raise the Regional District. levy
and, in addition, it would simplify:tax rol} preparation in that the hospital.

A brief: discussion ensued and: it’: was generally agreed that the word:
"require! where it appears -in-the recommendation adopted. by the District. of

Burnaby should be deleted and the word "permit" inserted in its-place, and

the following ‘resolution. was then. proposed:
