THE TELLING of a Terrace story with a happy ending has.
landed in the pages of a national magazine.

Local freelance writer Chantal Meijer’s story of the
cleanup effort at. Kitsumgallum, or Pioneer Cemetery by a.

group of dedicated locals will be published in the Nov. 15, '

issue of Harrowsmith Country Life.

The one page article informs readers how the group,
"dubbed Friends of the Cemetery, went about restoring the
resting place of the area’s first settlers.

The problem arose as descendents died off, writes Meijer,
and there were fewer people withia’vested interest in main-
taining the cemetery grounds,

Starting four years ago, the proup of volunteers ap-
proached the city and got its approval to clean up the cem-

.etery that had uncontrolled weeds and damaged headstones,

among other unsightly problems.
The group not only restored but: improved the cemetery

that dates back to the early 1900s. Thanks to the Friends of”.
the Cemetery, there is now an informational sign with a di-

rectory of the deceased on one side and a‘detailed history of
the graveyard on the other.
“I’m always happy to write about the good people of Tere

" race,” said Meijer. “They did such a great job. It’s nice to see

a group of local, benevolent volunteers getting recognized.

Last week, the four artists were frantically putting the fine
ishing touches for the exhibits that opened last Friday for a
well attended opening: reception. It was the sprint following

three to four months of solid work.

It’s been an especially prolific time for Dyan, who i is on

disability and has lots of time for her art.

“The more you do, the more you learn,’ Dyan added.

‘Trina and Lundrigan have come back to Terrace from
-where they now live and work in Red Deer, Alta. Trina is an’
industrial welder and Lundrigan is running a piecing shop.

» “We’ve got way too much energy, we’re all inclined to-

wards artistic ends,” Lundrigan said. “We're just trying to

learn from each other and have fun with it.”
