B2 | Terrace Review — Wednesday, July 24, 1991 Entrants praise Skeena alley Triathlon #5. we es SPORTS — HE ANNUAL SKEENA VALLEY TRIATHLON topped attendance again for the fifth year in a row, and according to the large list of outsiders competing in the 1991 event, Terrace will see a higher total in coming years as long as we keep providing top prizes. "All the out-of-towners were most happy at the race layout and were very surprised at the excel- lent selection of prizes," organizer Dr. Dale Greenwood told us. Greenwood said they had hoped to attract about 200 runners, bikers and swimmers, but were pleasantly surprised when the final’ total turned out to be 231 (compared to the previous record of 172, set last year). "The Vancouver contingent went home smiling,” said Greenwood. "Steve McMurdo of Vancouver fold me he'd attended about 150 tri races and our banquet and presen- tations was the best he’d ever becn to." ‘Northwest Community‘ College handled the catering. They put on a fabulous spread which will likely be praised for many events in future. Greenwood was pleased the event went off nearly accident-free. Only one case of mile hypothermia was reported and treated immedi- ately. Weather-wise, it was near per- fect. This probably was the main reason the crowd was even bigger than last year. As Greenwood points out, it was chilly with rain and wind in 1990, which kept fan attendance down. This year several hundred people flocked to the start and finish lines at Lakelse Lake picnic site, as well as to the tumaround areas for bikers and runners.
