GVRD Rural Planning Participation

RECOMMENDATION:
That City Council advise the Board of fhe Greater
Vancouver Regiona! District, that the City of Port
Coquitiam is exercising its option under Section 805 of
the Municipal Act to deciline from participating in
financing of rural” planning.

BACKGROUND:

The above motion has been adopted by City Council each
year over the past three years, exempting the City from
financing rural planning service for Anmore and Bowen Island.

COMMENTS: |
The recommended motion is to permit the City To decline

from financing rural pianning.. The legislation, Section 805 of
the Municipal Act was introduced to require unincorporated
communities to fund their own activities by permitting nearby
municipalities to withdraw from paying for rural planning. Oue
+o the urban nature of Greater Vancouver Regional District, the
unincorporated areas have traditionally paid for their own
planning services, exempting municipalities from payment. This

report's recommendation is To implement that direction
