Freeman, City Clerk Dear Mr. Freeman: Re: Swing Span - Pitt River Bridge << L wish to thank you for your letter of October 9 concerning a resolution approved by your Municipal Council on the Pitt River Bridge swing span. It is difficult to understand what prompted the resolution because for two years the Department has not permitted opening of the bridge between 7 and 9 a.m. and 4 and 6 p.m. on working days, that is, Monday through Friday. * According to the records the bridge has opened only twice during these hours in the past two years and both of these were on statutory holidays. There were some recent traffic tie~ups in that area as a result of bridge construction work when trucks hauling fill were causing problems in rush hours. However, other arrangements have been made and the hauling has been rescheduled so that for the present, the problem has been eliminated. Perhaps the sponsors of your resolution were attributing this congestion to the swing span and apparently were not aware that the bridge never opens in those rush hour periods. Yours truly, Graham R.
