Last year Elks representatives from across the country raised between $12 and $13 million and they are hop- - ing to hit $15 million this year. Last week, Vic Dyck, national leader of the Benevolent and Pro- tective Order of Elks, Canada, visited Terrace for the purpose of meeting with local representatives and pro- moting a spirit of aid to others through the fraternal organization. The Elks of Canada and their auxiliary, the Royal Purple, was founded in the year 1912 and currently has a total membership of over 68,000. Dyck said 1986 marks the first year of a ‘five year membership campaign. He added that Elks representatives ‘hope to double’”’ the present number of peo- ple associated with the organization. The national leader greeted Terrace Elks Lodge No. 425 and Royal Purple (OORP) members at a luncheon hosted in his honor at the Terrace Hotel Thursday, March 20. Part of Dyck’s mandate, as Canada’s Elks represen- tative, is to visit lodges throughout the country and discuss issues of relevance to organizations on a local and national level. Through a variety of projects such as bingo events, raffles, bake sales, and social func- tions, Elks members raise funds to help peo- ple who are in need of aid. The Purple Cross Fund provides money to assist young people up to 19 years of age. Senior by Denise Coulter Terrace contributor TERRACE — Approx- imately, 125 seniors gathered at the Elk’s Hall recently for the third annual Senior Citizen’s Sweetheart Dinner and Dance, spon- sored by the Kinette and Kinsmen Clubs of Ter- race. After a delicious roast beef dinner was served, playing cards were pass- ed around to all the ladies in attendance. Iris Blue was the lucky lady who was dealt the Queen of Hearts and was crowned Queen while her husband Roy was named King. They received numerous gifts, all donated by local mer- chants. Dancing to. the ‘‘Mothballs” was en- joyed by all and door prizes were drawn throughout the evening. Special guests in atten- dance were the 1985 story.
