Deputy Engineer That the City of Port Coquitlam apply to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs for a revenue sharing grant in the amount of $6,500 to reconfigure the City water model. Presently the City uses the WATER computer program to simulate operating conditions in the City water system, The model is used to identify areas in the system which require upgrade and to determine fire flows and pressures which are used in the design of sprinkler systems. The model has also been used to determine the effects a shut-down of a pressure reducing valve (PRV) under maintenance conditions. Because of past limitations in computing power, the computer model was divided up into four independent zones: north, south, east and west. This limits the versatility of the model, particularly in predicting effects between zones. With the recent computer upgrade it is proposed to combine the four zones into one. The combination of the four zones in the model would be done in-house using engineering department staff at an estimated cost of $8,000. An application for this project would be made under a 1993 Water & Sewer Study Grant which is due on November 30, 1993. Under the program the province will fund 100% of the first $5,000 and 50% of the next $10,000 or less. The eligible grant amount for this project would be $6,500. In order to proceed with the application for funding for the above project a resolution from Council is required. * , ; 19 ree it NE
