THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM MEMORANDUM TO: City Administrator August 6, 1987 FROM: City Engineer SUBJECT: Bicycle Baffles at Norfolk Street = Public Works Committee August 4, 1987 | Recommendation: That bicycle baffles be installed at the south end of the walkway leading onto Norfolk Street and the estimated cost of $800 be taken from the unallocated funds in the Public Works Budget. Background and Comments: The walkway at the north end of Norfoik Street intersects the street at an angle, with visibility being restricted by a board fence. The waikway Is used extensively by cyclists and the Committee received a complaint from one cyclist who had been struck by another cyclist speeding around the angle at the end of the walkway. Although bicycle baffles are usually reserved for locations where a walkway enters a busy street, the Committee felt that a barrier would be justified in this case to protect pedestrians and cyclists from being struck by cyclists.
