January 26th, 1981 /5, DELEGATION: ‘Mts. Sharon Evans, 2436 Welcher Avenue, and Mr, George Allen, 2477 Welcher Avenue, appeared before Council representing the residents of the area border ing the City's Welcher Avenue garbage dump and requesting that the Couneil immediately order the closure of the Welcher Avenue dump which was reopened January 19th, Mrs. Evans and Mr. Allen addressed the Council and advised that the use of the dump recreates hazardous conditions respecting tae flow of traffic to and from the dump and the health hazard resulting from the storage of the garbage in the area. Mrs. Evans presented the following suggestions: That the site ba supervised at all times. That the hours of Operation be limited. That only the designated area on the site be used for dumping. That the use of the garbage dump be restricted to Port Coquitlam residents only. That only domestic garbage be accepted on the site. That only garbage contained in plastic bags be accepted. That legal action be taken against violators of the rules with respect to dumping at the site. Moved by Alderman Gates: Seconded by Alderman Traboulay: That the City's Welcher Avenue garbage dump be closed forthwith. Defeated, Aldermen Gates and Traboulay voted in favour of the resolution. Prior to defeat of the resolution as stated above, Alderman Wright Proposed the following resolution: Moved by Alderman Wright: That the question of closure or use restriction of the City's Welcher Avenue dump be referred to the Public Work; Committee for consideration with the. City, Enginear. Lost for Want of Seconder. His Worship the Mayor instructed that the seven suggestions proposed ‘ this evening by Mrs. Evans and Mr. Allen be referred to the City's Public Works Committee for cousideration.
