B12 - The Terrace Standard, Wednesday, October 2, 1996 Terrace seniors storm | : games - OUR OLDER Terrace athletes really rocked the Seniors Games in Kamloops earlier this month, bringing home a total of 32 medals from the provincial event, More than 2,700 competi- tors descended on the city for the mect. That’s the highest number of athletes ever for the games. “There would have been 2,701,” says Bill Bennett — who, at 88 would have been the oldest competitor fom Zone 10. ‘But J just couldn’t make it.”’ Bennett was hoping to go for the gold in Kamloops after a successful Victoria Masiers Meet in August. There, he won gold medals in shotput, javelin and dis- cus, and he was on his way to a repeat performance in Kamloops, “My sultcase was packed, but I coulda’t make it be- cause ol bealih reasons,’’ he says. “‘But I don’t care if they have to carry me next year, I’m going."” However, one of Bennett’s teammates from the Victoria match did make it to the games.
