I am instructed that Municipal Council has in spite of the protestations of a number of residence directly affected authorized the placement of a median diverting a heavy flow of traffic into a virtually unprotected zone. Before the diversion of traffic there may have been up to 200 cars passing per day through Murchie Placa; now by council's own reading this number has jumped to 2,200 per day. In some cases J understand the volume was of the order of 300 per hour. At the same time virtually no safety measures have been installed to protect adults, children or pets from the obvious concomitant danger inherent in such an increase in commuter traffic. This is primarily fast moving traffic passing through. My client's group is concerned that someone is going to be killed if some immediate measures to remedy this increased danger are not taken. It. would appear that the only alternative would be to remove the diverting median. Instead of discouraging commuter traffic from travelling through a residential zone (i.ea. Woodland/Patricia/Hastings/Lougheed) it has merely created a substitute by pass route nanely Kitchener/Clayton/Tuohey/Murchie. Arguably this has made the situation much worse. Patricia Street has paved sidewalks; neither Kitchener, nor Clayton, nor Tuohey, nor Murchie have anywhere safe for pedestrians. TEM | PAGE
