Unfortunately, none of the five invited teams arrived. . ‘Smithers coach Stu Wormsdecker said he in- vited Hazelton, Bulkley Valley Christian, Hous- ton, Queen Charlotte City and Masset but none of the teams bothered to re- ply. ‘‘I guess they felt we were too strong and it wasn’t .worth the time, effort and expense,’’ Wormsdecker said. But this brought up another problem — would Smithers ‘be allowed to take part in the 16-team single ‘A’ championship series starting today at Summerland? It was felt that tournament organ- izers for this B.C. fin- al might take away the northwest zone berth and give it to the north-central berth because the region failed to play off for a representative team. A few phone calls and explanations cleared things up, and today the Smithers girls hit the boards at Summerland to take on Hope in their first game at the B.C. finals.
