The transmission and program were made possible by the Nicaraguan Network, a coalition of 300 solidarity groups throughout the United States, with the B.C. event sponsored by Oxfam and Tools for Peace. The following is a slightly edited version of his speech, translated in the broadcast. _ Friends in solidarity with Nicara- gua and friends in different countries around the world: I would first like to tell you the appreciation the Nicara- guan people and the FSLN (Sandi- nista National Liberation Front) have for the solidarity that you have shown us throughout all these years in the struggle for justice, freedom and democracy in Nicaragua. This decade, the whole 1980s, even since 1979 has seen the Nicaraguan people in a confrontation with the United States through the embargo, through the contras, through the min- ing of the ports.
