V3C 2A Dear Mayor Traboulay: The District of Surrey recognizes the need for reform in the criminal justice system, and especially the need for adequate protection of women who are victims of violence in the home. At the Regular Council meeting of the District of Surrey held on March 15, 1993, the Municipal Council unanimously supported the following resolution and requested that all B.C. Municipalities be urged to support same: “WHEREAS the current Canadian Criminal Code does not adequately protect women victims of violence in the home; AND WHEREAS restraining orders and peace bonds result more often in subsequent abuse and death than protection; AND WHEREAS the only protection from intimidation in the Code is found in contract law to deal with labour disputes; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Surrey Council support M.P.
