Your Worship and Councillors:

I am writing regarding the report of the Provincial
Task Force on Childcare entitled "Showing We Care: A
Child Care Strategy For The 90's". Tt is my
understanding a copy was provided to every community in
British Columbia. The Task Force report is consistent
with Vancouver's Civic Childcare Strategy, which calls
for an affordable, accessible, comprehensive childcare
system. |

At its meeting of September 12, 1991, Vancouver City
Council resolved to endorse the recommendations of the
Task Force, particularly those related to the following
needs (outlined in Appendix I attached):

a clearly defined provincial childcare mandate;
childcare capital funding;

direct operating grants for child care;

daycare subsidy rates and eligibility leveis.

Council also resolved to seek the active support of
all B.C. municipalities for the. Task Force
recommendations. Therefore, on Council's behalf, I am
requesting you to advocate their implementation. |
