THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM MEMORANDUM George Ulmer June 6, 1983 Works & Utilities Supt. B. Anderson Public. Works Foreman Kingsway Avenue, Gately to Burleigh | have checked with Imperial Paving regarding dust layering and-.also flush coating Kingsway Avenue on both sides, from Gately to Burieigh, and the side street which goes north bestde and behind Lot !, Plan 10732. The total area to fiush coat is approximately 2,000 sq. yds. The cost. of flush coating this area is $2.69 per sq. yd. This inetudes a coat. of special prime at 0.3 gal/sq. yd., RC 4 at 0.3 gal/sq. yd., and 1/2" clear crush/sq. yd. . 2028 sq.yds. @ $2.69/sq.yd = $5,455.32 Fiush coating The cost of spraying this area with calcium lignosulfonate is $0.55/ga!l and the rate of application is 0.5 galt/sq. yd. 2028 sq.yds x .05 gal/sq. yd. = [014 gal. 1014 gal x $0.55/gal = $557.70 Dust Layering The total square yardage would take approximately 199 tonnes of asphalt, machina taid, at $31.75/tonne = $6,320. WIth some preparations possibly the whole job could be done for $12-15,000. The problem with flush coating is the asphalt prime has to be taid for a day or two before the flush coat. Vehicles become covered with tar and the tar is also tracked into bulldingse The binder then has to be laid down and invariably someone drives or walks, through, again spreading the tar around. The rock is usually very dusty and the flush coat has a habit of bleeding during the heat of the summer which again creates a problem of spreading the tar.
