NEW BUSINESS: Actinre -Mayor Mabbett referred to a letter that had been received from the Union Yepresenting the City's employees who were currently on strike asking that further negotiations be entered into and the Acting-— Mayor read a statement advising that the mediator had been asked to convene further meetings and that the mediator would again be contacted and asked to speed up the holding of such meetings, Alderman Gates referred to the garbage being dumped adjacenc to the intersection of Shaughnessy Street and Patricia Avenue and the Acting- Mayor advised that many names had been obtained and the charging of these individuals with violation of the City's anti-litter provisions would be considered, Alderman Traboulay referred to the recent announcement by the Provincial Government that the deposit on beer bottles had been increased and he suggested that this be expanded to include all liquor bottles in the returns scheme. Moved by Alderman Traboulay: Seconded by Alderman Wright: That a letter be written to the appropriate authorities applauding the recent increase in deposit and refund for beer bottles but advising them that in the opinion of the Council the deposit and refund system should be expanded to include all liquor bottles. Carried. Prior to passage of the resolution quoted above :ne following amend- ment was proposed: Moved by Alderman Muldoon: That the previous resolution be amended so as to ask the appropriate authorities to only "give consideration" to the request of Council.
