June 28th, 1976 A regular meeting of the Municipal Council of The Corporation of the City of Port Coquitlam was held in the Couneil Chamber, Port Coquitlam City Hall, 2272 McAlliste: Avenue, Port Coquitlam, B.C. on June 28th, 1976 at 7:30 p.m. Mayor J.M. Campbell, Aldermen J.J. Keryluk, G.R. Laking, E.W. Mabbett, P.F. Ranger, M.A. Thompson, and L.M. Traboulay in attendance. Also in attendance were Chief Administrative Officer L.D. Pollock, City Clerk R.A. Freeman, City Engineer V.G. Borch, P.Eng., Works & Utilities Superintendent G.W. Ulmer, Fire Chicf W.S. Wingrove, Recreation Director Janna Taylor and Mra. M.K. Warwick. CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES: Moved by Alderman Keryluk: Minutes - June 21/76 Seconded by Alderman Thompson: That the minutes of the regular meeting of this Council held on June 21st, 1976 be taken as read and adopted. Carried. DELEGATIONS: Delegation—-SD#43 re 'Job Exploratior by Students Prog.' From School District No. 43 (Coquitlam), June 25th, 1976 requesting that the City of Port Coquitlam give consideration to hiring two or three students under a subsidized "Job Exploration by Students Programme". The City Clerk advised that Mr. Frank Toporchak, Occupational Counsellor for the School District, was in attendance to further explain the programme to Council. Mr. Toporchak advised that he would be willing to answer any questions the members of Council might have with respect to the programme or its funding and further noted that to date 47 students have been placed ander the programme within District 43. Discussion ensued during which Mayor Campbell questioned that if students were in fact hired, would Union wages have to be paid and the City Administrator indicated this was in fact the case. The City Administrator further advised that he had had previous conversations with Mr. Toporchak on this subject and had indicated that it would appear at the present time that no further hiring will be taking place over the next few months and in fact, some lay-offs could be expected, and in light of this, he felt that the City would not be in a position to participate in such a programme this year. Alderman Mabbett expressed the opinion that in view of this being a training programme, he felt it was unfortunate that the Union
