Playwright arrives to host
workshops this weekend

Gonzalez-Risso will also take his own play while he’s here

THE VANCOUVER-based play-
wright behind Art Attack, the comic
tour-de-farce now on view at the
McColl Playhouse, heads to Terrace
this weekend.

The first was a group in White
_ Rock, B.C.

“Tt was originally produced on a
massive stage,” says director Daniel
Barnswell.

“The actors had a long way to run
to get from one entrance to the
other.”

The McColl Playhouse is much
smaller,

--“This is an an intimate setting.
The audience is, like, right on stage,
80 it. will have a completely different
‘feel than anything he’s seen before.”

Barnswell says he’s more excited
_ than nervous to have the playwright
himself view this production.

“T- think the play stands up 100
per cent,” he says. The talent is
more than matched to this material.”

And he can understand why Gon-
zalez-Risso would want ta come all
the way to Terrace to see his play.

Gonzalez-Risso grew up in a
small tewn —- Ocean Falls, in B.C.’s
Okanagan.

farce about a small northern town
called Wonderville.

The play looks at how two people
decide to form their own town in
order to gel government money.

That’s one of three plays Gonza-
lez-Risso is bringing up to Terrace,

Barnswell says the visit came to-
gether very quickly.

When the playwright indicated
he’d like to see this production of
Art Attack, the TLT went to work.

Art Attack producer Mavis Hamil-
ton and TLT club development coor-
dinator Nancy Stone-Archer were
_ able to obtain funding from the Ca-
nadian Playwrights’s Association.

Gonzalez-Risso will take in Fri-

day and Saturday night’s shows.

“I know he’ll get a big kick out of
it,” Barnswell says.

Gonzalez-Risso presents a back-
stage workshop Saturday, April 6 at
1 p.m. at the McColl Playhouse.

On Sunday, April 7, he’ll present
a workshop on the elements of co-
medy and farce, starting at 2 p.m.

At 7:30 p.m. he'll present a read-
ing, also at the McColl Playhouse,
home of the Terrace Little Theatre.

All three events are free and
sponsored by the Playwright’s Union
of Canada.
