RECOMMENDATION:

That a resolution be passed requesting that the chemical Malathion not be used within the
boundaries of the City of Port Coquitlam to adulticide mosquitoes. |

DISCUSSION:

The District of Maple Ridge has recently passed a resolution which requests that the chemical _
malathion not be used for the adulticiding of mosquitoes. The pesticide Malathion has only been
found effective for short term relief in any one area. A change in wind direction can bring a new
swarm to an area in a matter of a few hours after the area has been sprayed.

| The District of Maple Ridge has requested that Port Coquitlam, as a member of the Lower
Mainland Regional Mosquito Control Board, consider passing a similar resolution.

This resolution would not affect the Vector Control Office as they use a biological pesticide for
controlling mosquitoes in Port Coquitlam. | So
