Dear Mayor Traboulay:

It is our understanding that the Provincial Government would
prefer The Corporation of the District of Powel] River, and other
affected communities, not negotiate a Franchise Agreement with
anyone of the applicants for the distribution of natural gas.

We find this disturbing, as Part 15 of the Municipal Act
specifically sets conditions and responsibilities
of municipalities c¢ within their boundaries.
Tt is particularly important for Powell River, along with other
municipalities to retain their making decisicns
regarding the select egotiate the terms
of a franchise contract.

We ask for your support in submitting a letter to the Honourable
Jack Davis, Minister of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources,
urging the Provincial Government to reconsider their position on
this matter.
