CFC CON1'ROL STRATEGIES The Committee reviewed a letter from Mayor Copeland of Burnaby which suggested that the City should consider passing a bylaw similar to Burnaby's for the purpose of regulating the re"overy of CFC's prior to product servicing and/or disposal. The Deputy Engineer advised the Committee members of the work currently being undertaken by the GVRD CFC Control Strategy Regional Task Force i.ncluding development of municipal purchasing policies, public and industry information programs, systems for collection of CFC's from the domestic refrigeration waste stream and automotive air conditioners, as well as the development of a Regional CFC Control Bylaw. The task force intends to present a report to the Regional Board at their November meeting which will include a draft of the bylaw. In view of the efforts terng undertaken by the GVBD's Task Force, the Committee felt that it would be wise to wait until the above mentioned report has teen considered by the Regional Board before consideri.ng Mayor ITEYi III! ii'iimiilllJ I COIJFIBNATION OF MINDTES copeland's request. Riecken, Deputy Engineer MININDN CARE STANDARDS FOR HARBORING WILDLIFE The Committee noted that the City Clerk has advi.sed that it would be possible for Council to regulate the keeping of squirrels, skunks, and raccoons and to define areas i.n which they may be kept. The Coirmittee recommends that the Animal Control Bylaw be amended to incorporate the guidelines contained in the Ministry of Environment's Policy Guide to the Wildlife Act for squirrels, skunks, and raccoons which are exempt from the permitting procedures of that Act. ITEN IVI LITTER CON1'ROL The Committee reviewed a letter sutmitted by Mr. Len Cuddefcrd offering some ideas for an anti-litter education program he was hoping to implement in the City's elementary schools.
