-2- In order to maintain the May Day tradition while addressing the realities of our changing times, the May Day Committee decided they should prepare for the present by revisiting the past and proposed the introduction of a May Day Ambassador. The May Queen and May Day Ambassador will have similar responsibilities at civic events, etc. In addition, both "roles" will be chosen the same way, by random draw from the names submitted by the schools who also select their names by random draw. That is an important difference from many of the pageants that sometimes confuses people. Unlike many pageants, representatives are not chosen because of their knowledge, skills, etc. Our May Queen and now the May Day Ambassador are school children chosen by random draw throughout the process. One of the many positive effects of this addition, is that it has rekindled the interest of the May Day lancezs and will involve more families in the May Day activities, (i.e. Selection Tea). Summary: After reviewing a number of alternatives, the May Day Committee recommended to, and received approval from the Parks & Recreation Committee that a May Day Ambassador be included in the May Day Royal Party. a ; wy \ _ AOS a ns y Larry J.
