THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM 1987 06 04 ; JUN 8 - “87 REPORT TO: BR. Kirk, City Administrator FROM: K. danna Taylor, Parks & Reereation Director SUBJECT: Bronco Diamond. ~ Thompson Park no eu en ee er wn oe er nw 0 tr en an mY nh mt mn tn mera am tag RE EE NSO OE Recommendation: That the additional $16,000 required for underground drains be taken from the parks reserve. Background & Comments: In 1986 the Parks & Recreation Department started the construc- tion of the bronco diamond in Thompson Park. During the construction stage many problema were encountered with water springs. These problems were not originally anticipated and we had to put in @ tremendous amount of drains. The majority of the work was completed in late 4986. It was decided not to seed until the dry weather came in 1987. Upon inspection of the outfield by the Parks Superintendent during the dry weather he noted that the ground was still extremely wet and unsuited for seeding. The Parks Superintendent has met with the company who installed the drains in the fail and they have recommended that more drainage is required. Mr. Hoogendoorn, Parks Superintendent, in conjunction with the company who are installing the drains are of the opinion that the additional drains, at a cost of $16,000, will solve the problen. The company has been requested to start the’ installation immediately in order for the ground to settle and be ready for seeding in the fall. Monies were not placed in the budget for additional work as we had not anticipated any further problems; however, it is absolutely essential that the work be done now so that we can seed the area in the fall and have the diamond ready for Spring, 1988. The City Treasurer has informed me that there is sufficient money in the *old® parks reserve to cover the cost. Tye hh K. nna Taylor, Parks & Recreation Director. KJT/bh 81
