SUBJECT: Municipal Police Agreement

RECOMMENDATION:

That Council give consideration to passage of the following resolution:

"THAT the 'Municipal Police Agreement’ forwarded to the City of Port
Coquitlam by the Attorney General of the Province of British Columbia under cover
of his letter of September 17th, 1982 together with the amendments thereto
suggested by the Union of British Columbia Municipalities in its letter to the
City of Port Coquitlam dated October 13th, 1982 be approved;

AND THAT His Worship the Mayor and City Clerk be authorized to execute
the said Agreement on behalf of the City and to affix the corporate seal thereto."

BACKGROUND AND COMMETITS:

A copy of the Municipal Police Agreement, the covering letter of the
Attorney General, and the letter from the Union of British Columbia Municipalities
ntioned in the resolution quoted above have earlier been circulated to members
of Council. Due to the volume involved, we have not made copies automatically
available with the Agenda document but these can be provided to any member of the
public or ‘press wno has a particular use therefore.

Some members of Council will recall that at the Council meeting of
November 16th, 1981 the Council authorized the execution of the earlier version
of this Agreement and the new Agreement has been reviewed by Mr. Kirk and Mr.
Maitland and they cannot see that it presents any particular problems.
