Presentation of City Brief ~ Telephone Rate Increase

Council members will recall that at the Council’ meeting of July 7th,
1980 it was agreed that a brief expressing the Council's opposition to the proposed
telephone rate increases would be presented to a repional meeting being held by the
C.R.T.C. in various areas to receive such representations. It wag agreed that Council
would take this approach rather than appear at the central hearing which is being held
at 9:30 a.m., on Tuesday September 30th, 1980.

We have now been informed that regional hearings, all commencing at 7:30
Pom., Will be held in the following locations:

City Day Date
* Vernon Wednesday October lst

Cranbrook Friday October 3rd
Vancouver Monday October 6th (Sheraton Landmark)

Victoria Tuesday October 7th (Empress Hotel)
Dawson Creck Thursday October 9th

Since the legical hearing at which the Couneil could appear - Vancouver =~
da being held on a Council meeting night, Mayor Laking has asked me to put this matter
before the Council to inquire of their wishes in this regard,
