Greater Vancouver Housing Corporation 2294 WEST TENTH AVENUE VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA V6K 2H9 TELEPHONE 731-1155 Please refer to our file number: November 19th, 1975 C 0 U N C | _ NOV 2 4 1975 Mayor and Council, City of Port Coquitlam, 2272 McAllister, Port Coquitlam, B. C. Dear Sirs : We have been informed that all requests for fireburning permits are to be referred to Council. As you are aware, we have been clearing and burning at Meridian Village for some time. In September, the burring operation was curtailed to enable the contractor to clear and stockpile sufficient material to keep burning to a reasonably short. period. Owing to the extremely wet weather in October and ‘November, it was impossible to burn as planned. The remaining clearing operations wiil take four to six weeks of working time. In an attempt to retain existing growth where possible » clearing has been selective. We are also retaining the majority of jogs for our berm and Playground structures. The roots, trimmings and umsable logs remain. Several alternatives have been proposed. A continuation of on-site open burning can be handled under our existing clearing contract. To burn on-site using a forced air pit burning system would cost an estimated $25-30,000. A second quote is $2, 500/day (approximately $75,008). To haul away would cost approximately $35~-40,000. This may increase as it is extremely difficult to calculate the volume of material and dump charges. a The additional costs cf this extra work would have to be sustained within our fixed budget, and could mean a reduction in the quality of finish materials or landscaping. We request ‘that open fire burning permits sufficient to complete our clearing cane operation be authorized. _ Yours very truly, Rlan Dicks R. Ian Birtwell Manager ~ Development RIBsvn
