In those days there wasn’t a lot of money for fancy wedding extras so the Jadies of the church helped out, making potate salad and sand- wiches. Elsie’s mother splurged on a delicious wed- ding cake from Mrs. Sites bakery. Tt was 20 below that night when the couple left Terrace in a blizzard to start their honeymoon. They stayed in the Cedarvale cabins for the first night and by the next moming all their food was frozen, Wally had to make a fire under the vehicle to get it started. The couple then travelled to Hazelton for the weekend, Wally used to say that their marriage had very frosty start, but it’s jasted 45 years so it can’t be that bad. My, how things have changed now, Couples often spend $10-20,000 for a wedding and it may only last five years, if that. And now a little on Wally and Elsie’s history, Wally was bor Waldemar Froese in Russia. He was tvo when he moved to Canada and the family first settled in Sas- katchewan. The family moved to BC in 1946 and Wally struck out on his own in 1949 to look for work. He and four friends got ‘jobs “putting inthe power — line froni'tlie mill to the dhd - -. Pohle in his mill from 1951-55, After that Wally shifted careers to become a mechanic at Reum Motors, then worked for his brother who owned Vic Froese Trucking, until be retired in 1992. Elsie was born on Queen Charlotte Islands to Joseph Molitor and Effie Douglas. Elsie’s father worked at the air force training base there. Then during the war years, in 1942, Elsie and her fam- ily moved to Terrace. Many will recognize Molitor Ave. as being named for her fa- ther Joseph. Elsie left home at age 16 and moved to Vancouver to help her sisters who were having children. When she returned to Terrace she went to work at Riley’s Drug store, behind the old Terrace Hotel, where she worked for eight years, She met Wally at church, and he says she was the first nice girl who caught his eye. Affer they were married they built a home at 5104 Agar Ave, and lived there for 35 years. The couple had five chil- dren, and now have 13 grand children. Hoth are enjoying their retirement years together with friends and family remaining in Terrace. A belated happy anniver- sary. May God bless them ” both with good health. Daddy's waiting.” Andy paced anxiously in his ex-wife's living roam. Suddenly he bagan sniffing around like a dog. “Hey, Tina, this place smalls like an ashtray. Remember the judge's order. No. smoking in front of Cindy. She's got asth- ma, or don'tyou care?" Tina pretended nat to hear a word. She grabbed the coat and shoved Cindy into it. “Here she is," Tina snapped at Andy, pushing Cindy out the door. Andy growled. “Listen you witch, You and | may hate each other's guts. But that doesn't mean you should take it out on Cindy. Oiherwise this joint custody isn’t going to work.” Tina started screaming at Andy, “Who are you to talk? You take your 8- year old daughter, you stuff her full of sweets and you let her stay up till all hours watching horror movies. Then when she comes hame, it takes me 4 days to get her back into a normal routine. Oh sure, you really care about Cindy.” Andy grabbed Cindy's hand and slarted walking away, Suddenly, Cindy was wheezing heavy, Andy was concerned. “What's the matter, Cindy? is your asthma acting up ? " "No, no, Daddy, it's nothing. I'm feel- ing better now. Gan we go and get some ics cream?” “| just know she’s smoking in front of Cindy” Andy mumbled under his breath. “We'll get some ice cream, honey, but first let's go see Dr. Watson.” BASED ON ACTUAL COURT : i CASES a Andy drove Cindy to the doctor who checked Cindy's Jungs and took a urine sample. The next day, Dr. Watson callad Andy, "It's unbelievable. The tests show that Cindy's urine has the nicotine level of a person who smokes eighteen cigar- ettes a day!” Andy almost jumped through the roof. “l knew it. Tina is poisoning my child with her smoking, I've got ta do something to protect Cindy, I’m taking Tina to court.” Andy was anxious to address the Judge. “Your Honor, the urine tests prove it. It's as If Cindy is smoking 18 cigar- attes a day. What kind of mother would do that? A judge even ordered her not to smake in front Cindy because of her asthma. She cares more about her nico- tine fix than her daughter's health. You must giva me sole custody of Cindy before her mother kills her with her smoking.” In court, Tina was fighting like a wild tiger, “Your Honor, | have not been vio- lating the no-smoking order. You're ask- ing me how Cindy got the nicotine in her urlne?. How should | know? Bul Andy is not here because he cares so much about Cindy. He's just making trouble."
