Transport Canada has put habitat programs into place for yellow-headed blackbirds and barn owls and has purchased land to add to wildfowl sanctuaries in the Fraser River Estuary. A Good Neighbour Environmental Management Plan, involving community monitoring of airport operations, is being put into place. YVR’s runway project staff has already begun to plan the next phases of public information and consultation. The second edition of Community Report, which focuses on environmental impacts and mitigation measures, will be available shortly as will a revised video on the project. Our project display is being refurbished, and along with the video and Community Report, can be made available for your use. We remain available to brief you on the project and its potential impacts. The parallel runway project at YVR is an example of sustainable development in action. It is a technically sound, environmentally sensitive project, which has substantial long term economic benefits for British Columbia. But it is also a project that needs your active support to ensure the EAR Panel is made aware of the views of a wide cross section of British Columbians. I look forward to your visible support for the runway project and urge you to communicate with EAR Panel at your earliest opportunity.
