wu COUNC | JUN 26 1978: TO: Mayor and Council June 22nd, 1978 FROM: L.D. Pollock City Administrator Re: Purchase of Library Shelving This year the Library Budget incorporated an amount of $6,900. for acquisition of shelving and other capital items. A considerable amount of shelving is required this year to accommodate the change in the Fiction section as well to accommodate new Reference books that are being supplied. New books will be coming from both the Fraser Valley Regional Library Budget and our special allotment cf $10,000. set aside in the City Budget. . Tenders were called and three Bids were received as shown on the attached summary. Of the three, only the Bid of Bel-Par Industries meets our specifications. The second Bid of Vancouver Office Supply appears to be lower but they have omitted the supply of book-trucks totalling $1,097. and if this is added back in their price is higher. The third Bidder did not give any details at all on unit prices and this firm was involved in supplying shelving previously for the library and a considerable amount of difficulty was encountered. I would recommend that we accept the Bid of Bel—Par Industries in the amount of $5,773.89. The Committee has had input into the layout of the Library and the purchase of this shelving. It is anticipated that the new supply of books and shelving will see better utilization of the downstairs portion of the library which is presently occupied principally by lounge area. “LD.
