Store granted After much discussion, most .of which has heen heard at council before, Mickey Johnson Recreations Ltd. was given permission to operate a ski shop from his present localion at 4720 Lazelle Ave. until the end of the calendar year, In a letter to council Johnson explained that he had encountered some difficulty in finishing his new building at 4722 Lazetle Ave. Johnson had informed Terrace Mayor Dave Maroney earlier in the day that the building should be complete within thirty days. Mayor Maroney told council he had suggested to Johnson that he make the an extension request for an extension until the end of the year, “so he will not be coming back again,” Johnson has a land use contract with the city which requires him to finish the new building by then or forfeit a $5,000 surety bond, Aldermen Jolliffe and Giesbrecht objected that Johnson was being given special consideration. ' “Ts there to be one law for Johnsou and another for everyone else in Terrace?” Jolliffe asked. The motion to give Johnson the requested time was passed on a recorded vote with Jolliffe and Giesbrecht voting against. The machine is used to cut open crushed vehicles to release viclims who might otherwise die because they could not be taken to hospital quickly enough. Mayor George Thom of Kitimat asked Director Vic Jolliffe if Terrace was going to allow its equipment, in- cluding the fire truck, to leave the Terrace district boundaries. Thom explained that if the “unlit is the same as the one owned by the Kitimat fire department it will not fit in the ambulance. Before any more discussion could take place, it was explained by a staff member that the unit in Terrace will belong to the volunteer firemen since they are raising the money for it. Also, the Terrace unit is ‘different than Kitimat's and can be fitted into the trunk of a car, The motion was carried. Two different referendums are planned, one which would permit installation of WEATHER Today's forecast has both good news and bad news. The good news is that a high Pressure ridge along the coast will bring sunny skies with morning fog patches today and tomorrow, Highs today should reach 14 degrees Celsius this af- ternoon, with lows tonight dipping to 1 to 3 degrees Celsius, There is a definite risk of frost in the lower lying areas. ; Thebad news is that this ridge of high pressure will probably break down toward. the end of the week, and allow a low pressure system — from the coast of Alaska to move in, bringing cloudy skies and rain during the weekend, Name =~ address a water system, and another which would sanction a sewage system including a treatment plant. Municipal affairs officials claim the sewage system would be the most expensive in the history of, B.C. and although they have not given a definite ‘no’ to the request for the referendum, no positive answer has been forwarded either. Should the referendum for water pass and the syslem be installed; hook-up fees would be approximately $450. A usage fee of $6 per month would be charged plus an average $6 per month frontage charge. This is after all provincial grants have been deducted from the lotal cost. The sewage system would be even more expensive with a hook-up fee of $550; nine dollars per month for usage and nine dollars per month for front footage, Watmough pointed out that no provincial ministry is pushing for the installations, bul the residents of Thornhill appear to be in favor of them. “Water, in particular is badly needed as many wells throughout the area went dry this summer,”” the director added The Herald, Wednesday, October 4. 1978, Page 3 Gives Srt/sfaction Always!
