Plywood Conference rt second conference to be a i 1 held February 15 will con- sider plywood job evalution procedures as reported upon by the Union’s plywood eval- uators. The plywood conference will include two union mem- bers from the review commit- tee in each coast plywood plant with one Local Union officer and Regional Officers. The conference will advise on ways and means to expe- dite the work of job evalua- tion which is rapidly increas- ing in volume and over-tax- ing existing facilities. Tradesmen’s Council One of the most important of the three conferences scheduled is the meeting of the Tradesmen’s Council set for February 16. This will be representative of all coast Local Unions with two trades- men and one officer from each Local Union. The conference has been called in accordance with a Regional Convention resolu- tion which provided: 1. That we set up an advis- ory Regional . Tradesmen’s Council in the lumber indus- try, consisting of two trades- men and an officer from each Local Union, along with two Regional Officers. 2. That this Tradesmen’s Council meet for the purpose of preparing recommenda- tions and co-ordinating efforts of Local Unions in solving tradesmen’s problems. All rec- ommendations of the Council shall be subject to approval by the Regional Executive Board or Convention. 3. That a meeting be held as soon as possible to prepare recommendations .on at least the following points: (a) Training programs for tradesmen. (b) Jurisdiction of trades. (c) Tool requirements and tools to be supplied by the Company. (d) Hours of work. (e) Protective equipment to be supplied by the Com- pany. (£) Descriptive categories in all operations covering tradesmen. (g) Wage rate structure for tradesmen, and also That every effort be made to implement a uniform pro- gram for tradesmen as soon as possible. .
