THE WESTERN CANADIAN LUMBER WORKER vee >) Four top officers of Local 1- 85 IWA, Port Alberni, were re- elected to office by ac- clamation during the nominations conducted at the Local’s 38th Annual Meeting March 10, in Port Alberni. Re-elected were President Earl Foxcroft, ist Vice- President Lynn Larson, 2nd Vice-President Mike Kokura, and Recording Secretary Henry Nedergard. Earl Foxcroft was also elected the Local’s Regional Executive Board Member. Nominated for the other officer positions were: 3rd Vice-President - Tom McCrae and E. Bigelow; Financial Secretary - Bill Hawkes and George McKnight; Warden - Doug Clarke and A. Fran- coeur; Condustor - Vic Boucher and Ernie Clark; Six- Year Trustee - Barry Forbes and J. Isasc. One of the hottest debated issues during the meeting was a notice of motion to change the Annual Meeting from the meeting ANNUAL MEETING CHANGE Spring to the Fall. After heavy discussion the motion was approved and will now be forwarded to the next In- ternational Board Meeting for consideration. The meeting unanimously approved an _ Executive recommendation to protest to the Forestry Department any logging in the Cathedral Grove area which would endanger the beauty. Bill Hawkes, the Local Union representative on the Regional Forestry Committee, said that this matter would be placed on the agenda of the Committee’s next meeting. Guest speakers .at the were’ Regional President Jack Munro and International Secretary- Treasurer Bill Botkin. Munro reported on the state of coast negotiations and the finalization of the tradesmen’s revisions. He also called on the members to take pride in their Union and to help make it. the and biggest best . labour’ organization in the forest in- dustry. He suggested that if everyone in the IWA played his or her part, unions such as the | PPWC would no longer cause - annoyance to our organization. Botkin spoke on the activities of the International and the role it played in aiding the regional councils on both sides of the border. He also presented two long-time Local 1-85 members, Bill Horsman and Arnold Seaman, with their twenty-five year pins. Other business of the meeting included dealing with a comprehensive Officers’ Report and electing nineteen oy i LOCAL 1-85 OFFICERS reporting on the Local’s progress during the year.
