This third agreement between the Francophone communi- ty — represented by the umbrella organization, the Fédération des francophones de la Colombie- Britannique — and the Department of Canadian Heritage, once it is signed, will commit Canadian Heritage to working with Francophones toward the development and enrichment of the Francophone community in British Columbia. This will take place through direct support of programming and agency projects. There are a number of steps that the Francophone community must go through before securing a third agreement: the first is to consult with the Francophone community across the province. The process involves widespread consultation with nine meetings throughout British Columbia. The first took place in Prince George on March 8, 2003. This process will help us achieve three objectives: an evaluation of the impact of the 1999-2004 Canada-Community Agreement, adoption of the 2004-2009 Global Development Plan, and a review of the management mechanisms related to the Canada-Community Agreement. The new Plan will set the communi- ty’s development priorities for the next five years and will form the basis for negotiation of the third agreement with the community, represented by the Fédération des francophones de la Colombie-Britannique, and the Department of Canadian Heritage.
