Tam {7 8 V68 1B 5 Newsletter Spring Greetings: As has been expressed in previous newsletters our plans for 1978 will be broadened to include the trany subjects on ancient ways in ceramics. As these ways have done much to influence the modern potter, we will be drawing in individuals who have concentrated their interests on ancient technicues to the point of reproducing the effects. We invite all to take advantage of this. opportunity and participate. The next general meeting of the potter's guild will be at 6:00F.h. on Wed., Jan. 1déth in the fireside room of the Unitarian Church at 49th. and Oak. . PROGRAM TI January: We are very pleased to have Fred Owen give a demonstration on ' still life ' photography; ie. how to photograph your pots. Fred .is an instructor of ceramics at Douglas College; and is not only an expert potter, specializing in Haku, but also an excellent photographer. In the past he has recorded many of the Guild's exhibitions. this is the opportunity for those of us who want to learn the vresentation end of being a craftswan. February: . Jeanne Sarich will begin a Spring series on the tradition of ancient techniques in pottery utilizing examples of old and new. Jeanne has made an extensive study in the ancient Oriental techniques both in theory and in. practice; she is presently working with Shino glazes and Japanese svecial effects in glazes. This will be an opportunity for individuals working in the Oriental tradition to bring examples of their work. The series of more than one meeting will include a slide presentation of the building of an ancient hey, ike kiln in which Jeanne particinated at a Banff seminars Further spring rrogramnes Fanny Grubner, recently returned from South America, has not been well enough to do a program on South American pottery. We hope to have her join us by our March meeting. Fanny has mastered tne tech nique of incised decoration and slip painting. she has made an exten- sive exploration into South American pottery. Later in the spring the program will continue with stoneware and porcelain techniques, again incorporating examples of the ancient and modern achievements of the potter.
